Eric Swirsky’s professional experience is diverse. Before opening his own law firm and practicing law–– startup business ventures, venture capital and real estate--for six years in the Bethesda, MD, he worked for a wide variety of organizations, from Mother Teresa’s mission in Kolkata, India to the U.S. Department of Justice. He has held an even wider variety of positions, such as ambulance technician, beekeeper, corporate software trainer, and court clerk.

Mr. Swirsky’s educational background is equally as diverse. He received a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from Ithaca (N.Y.) College in 1991 and an MA in South Asian studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1996. In 2000, he earned his law degree from American University’s Washington College of Law.

At UIC, using his unique blend of experience and knowledge, Mr. Swirsky teaches a course in communication skills for health informatics professionals, as well as a course in ethics and legal issues in health informatics. He also lectures on topics related to copyright, intellectual property and the legal aspects of health information management.
