During Greer Stevenson’s 15 years of service in the U.S. Air Force he worked as a data communications manager and security officer. After being discharged and finishing his bachelor’s degree, he held the position of computer and telecommunications manager at various levels at state and county offices and private companies. Notably, Dr. Stevenson served as a systems analyst for Centegra Health System, still an immense northern Illinois health care systems with 3,100 associates and 450 physicians in more than 30 sites. He also worked as a project manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, where he worked on the back-end financial systems to join BCBS Illinois with BCBS Texas. At UIC, Dr. Stevenson is a member of an interdisciplinary security advisory board and actively advises the College of Applied Health Sciences on policies related to HIPAA compliance.

Dr. Stevenson has three graduate degrees from UIC, including a doctorate completed with his dissertation, “HIPAA Security: Intercultural Perspectives of Health Information Technology Professionals and Clinicians.” Dr. Stevenson recently became a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) by passing the rigorous, six-hour CISSP examination that is the only one of its kind recognized by the federal government.
