ADMISSIONS

At UIC, we've made the application process hassle-free and as easy as possible. Our Enrollment Advisors will walk you through every step of the process to ensure a smooth transition into the program. Applications are accepted year-round and there are three convenient start dates per year. The program is specially designed for you with flexible, online classes that allow you to live your life while you learn.

Applicants who would like to be admitted to the Master of Science in Health Informatics program must submit the following minimum admissions requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited institution
  • At least 3.0/4.0 for the final 60 semester (90 quarter) hours of undergraduate study or for all terminal graduate degrees. A final cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 for UIC's post baccalaureate certificate in health informatics will also be accepted. In addition to the previous requirements, the cumulative GPA for any graduate-level course work must be at least 3.0/4.0
  • At least two years of work experience in industries that can directly translate to health informatics, such as health care, IT, health information management, consulting, or law. This excludes academic student jobs

Post-Master's Certificate in Health Informatics Admission Criteria:

  • Graduate degree from an accredited institution
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a scale of 4.0) for all graduate work
  • At least two years of work experience in industries that can directly translate to health informatics, such as health care, IT, health information management, consulting, or law. This excludes academic student jobs

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Informatics Admission Criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • At least 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) for the final semester (90 quarter) credit hours of undergraduate study OR a cumulative 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for all graduate work
  • At least two years of work experience in industries that can directly translate to health informatics, such as health care, IT, health information management, consulting, or law. This excludes academic student jobs

Post–Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Information Management Admission Criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • At least 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) for the final semester (90 quarter) credit hours of undergraduate study OR a cumulative 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for all graduate work
  • Completion of pre-requisite coursework, which may be completed after admission to the program

The BHIS department does not permit concurrent enrollment and registration with other UIC programs unless students are officially admitted into one of the joint degree programs. If Health Informatics isn't selected as the primary program of study, then students cannot be accepted into the Health Informatics graduate degree nor certificate programs secondary to another program at UIC.
