Larry Pawola has held several clinical and executive management positions in hospitals and, until 2003 he was a partner in an international information technology professional services firm.
Karen Patena has worked in hospital medical record management, as well as systems planning and implementation, for nearly 20 years.
Mike Dieter was first exposed to health informatics as a graduate student studying information science.
During Greer Stevenson’s 15 years of service in the U.S. Air Force he worked as a data communications manager and security officer
Annette Valenta joined UIC in 1991 to implement the specialization in health informatics within the Master of Business Administration degree.
Mr. Swirsky teaches a course in communication skills for health informatics professionals, as well as a course in ethics and legal issues in health informatics.
Lois M. Hitchcock, MHA, RHIA, CPHQ Clinical Assistant Professor Lois Hitchcock has 27 years of diverse health care experience within the health care delivery system.
Cathy Bimmerle joined UIC’s BHIS adjunct faculty in 2008 and became a member of the full-time faculty in the summer 2009.
Valerie Schmitt Prater received her BA degree with honors from Hollins University in Virginia and her MBA with honors from North Central College in Illinois.

Mike Cohen has over 30 years of experience helping health care organizations focused on obtaining more value out of their information technology (IT) investments.

Yevette’s interest in informatics and technology began when University of Illinois Medical Center (UIMC) implemented an electronic medical record.
