Health Information Management Faculty
Responsible for overall health information management (HIM) education program.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and administers curriculum for students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for competency in accordance with the stipulations of professional and accreditation agencies
- Develops instructional materials to include course plans, objectives, audiovisual aids, lab activities, and evaluation tools
- Instructs students
- Assesses course effectiveness through student evaluations
- Works with counterparts on other campuses to establish continuity
- Develops a student recruitment program or assists in student recruitment
- Advises prospective students on the academic and professional aspects of the program
- Advises current students relative to their performance and maintains appropriate documentation thereof
- Actively participates in appropriate department, division, school, campus, or university committees
- Engages in research or creative activities in the field of health information management, education, or related areas
- Documents results of research or creative activities in published form
- Develops and administers an annual program budget
- Manages correspondence relative to the program and liaisons with all constituencies influencing health information management education
- Establishes and monitors procedures for clinical education and evaluation
- Administers admissions process for HIM program
- Schedules and prepares agenda for the HIM Advisory Committee
- Reviews faculty course evaluations
- Schedules courses and assigns teaching loads
- Reviews faculty performance
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a health-related discipline or education
- Registered Health Information Management Administrator (RHIA) certification by the American Health Information Management Association
- Years of clinical experience and teaching as stipulated by university guidelines
- Working knowledge of accreditation process desirable
