FACULTY
Mike Cohen has over 30 years of experience helping health care organizations focused on obtaining more value out of their information technology (IT) investments. He is president of his own consulting firm and has worked with a variety of healthcare clients in areas of IT decision-making, contracting, and operational improvements. His areas of expertise include systems planning, vendor evaluation and selection, contract negotiations, systems implementation management, product review and analysis, IT management, project management, and electronic health records. While focused on the healthcare market within the U.S., he has had a wide variety of international experiences in Western Europe, Latin America, Canada and Asia. He has consulted with numerous health care providers and delivery systems of all sizes, ranging from small rural facilities to fully integrated regional and national delivery systems as well as physician practices, behavioral health units, sub-acute providers and managed care providers.
Mr. Cohen has been a frequent public speaker and author on information systems topics and serves on the editorial board of ADVANCE for Health Information Executives. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications including the monthly “EHR Corner” column (and before that the monthly “HIPAA Corner” column) in ADVANCE for Health Information Executives, the recent book published by HCPro entitled “Electronic Health Records: Strategies for Implementation,” and has contributed content to several books on HIPAA. His education background includes a Master of Management (MM) degree with concentrations in health care administration and finance from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northern Illinois University.
