Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Information Management

The online Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Information Management from the University of Illinois at Chicago is designed to expand on your existing bachelor’s degree and help you gain the knowledge you’ll need to become an influential leader in health care. The program also prepares experienced health care, business, and IT professionals to become eligible for and obtain Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.

During UIC’s Post-Bachelor’s Health Information Management Program, you have the opportunity to study the health care system in the United States and learn how information is recorded, shared and managed. The curriculum includes coding and classification procedures, reimbursement systems, resource exploration, technology and methods required to optimize the use of information in the areas of nursing, clinical care, pharmacy, public health and medical research.

The program was designed so that students examine the role of health information management (HIM) and learn how health care data is collected and stored in electronic health records (EHRs), develop leadership and management skills, perform system analysis of the different types of health information systems, and study legal, privacy and security risks involved with HIM and electronic medical records.

Graduates of UIC’s online Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Information Management will be eligible to sit for the highly valued Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification, and the program proudly enjoys an excellent pass rate on the RHIA Certification Exam offered though AHIMA.

This program prepares you with the knowledge you’ll need to pass the RHIA certification exam. The current pass rate for our UIC Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in HIM graduates is 100%. The program requires 40 credit hours to complete and you can earn your post-baccalaureate certificate in as few as 13 courses.
