Geisinger Health System announced the implementation of Altosoft’s Insight business intelligence (BI) platform in an attempt to improve operational procedures and the quality of patient care.
Altosoft’s Insight for Pathology BI technology allows physicians to track laboratory processes as they occur, manage resource allocation to effectively prepare for seasonal diseases such as influenza, and analyze historical data to ensure efficient data management. Insight for Pathology can be integrated with medical informatics systems to maintain existing healthcare IT workflows, according to Altosoft’s official website.
“Increasingly, we need to rely on real-time reports that combine data from multiple systems to better understand the status of our quality of service and lab utilization so we can maintain the highest level of service and quickly adjust as patient loads change,” said Al Shulski, director of laboratory systems for Geisinger, as quoted by Healthcare IT News. “The old approach of working from monthly, weekly or even daily reports is no longer acceptable.”
A primary motivation for the adoption of the BI system was to provide physicians with a sophisticated user interface to enable them to access and share patient data quickly, in order to focus on patient care. The system allows healthcare professionals to create customizable dashboards of data relevant to their practice areas to further facilitate the transfer of information between doctors, departments and hospitals.
According to Altosoft, key advantages of the Insight system include the suite’s metrics-based management tools, which allow physicians to track incoming patient cases against time-sensitive targets and goals established by healthcare facility management. The system’s analysis tools are also fully customizable, and can also be subcategorized into data sets such as specimen class and reporting pathologist.
