Healthcare informatics publication receives award for providing career advice

As healthcare informatics becomes an increasingly important facet of the medical industry, many professionals in the field are seeking to advance in their careers. In order to facilitate this process, Healthcare Informatics (HCI) – a publication that provides information to C-suite information technology (IT) leaders – offers a regular column called Career Paths.

This week, the magazine received the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE) 2011 Silver Award in the Best Regular Column category for its publication of Career Paths. Tim Tolan, executive recruiter, started the column in January of 2009.

“I am honored to receive this award from ASHPE with the editorial team at Healthcare Informatics,” said Tolan, who is also senior partner of the Healthcare IT Practice of Sanford Rose Associates. “The editors at HCI have done an outstanding job providing valuable content to healthcare CIOs on a variety of topics. I accept this award with my colleagues at HCI knowing it was a team effort.”

Tolan also writes career advice for blogs on HCI’s website and online newsletter. The publication, which focuses on supporting the needs of those in the industry, provides readers with leadership strategies to help them achieve their organizations’ goals, optimize operations and improve patient care quality.

“We at Healthcare Informatics are very gratified that our Career Paths column was recognized by ASHPE,” said Mark Hagland, editor in chief of Healthcare Informatics magazine. “We have enjoyed having Tim as a regular contributing writer for HCI. His Career Paths column is a favorite with our readership and provides our readers with invaluable professional development insights and perspectives. Our entire editorial team joins with me in congratulating Tim on receiving this important award.”
