A new partnership between electronic medical record (EMR) vendor MobileMD and the Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN) aims to develop a health information exchange (HIE) project, according to EMR Daily News. The partnership will work alongside several member organizations over the next five years to develop the technology and deploy the healthcare IT infrastructure necessary.
Community physicians will benefit from the HIE project, in addition to two hospitals, five community health outreach centers and a visiting nurse program. MobileMD will provide the initiative with cloud-based HIE services to enable greater levels of data interconnectivity between member providers, regardless of healthcare IT infrastructure, medical informatics system or physical location.
The vendor will deploy four of its connected products to enhance communication and information sharing across the HIE, including two of its flagship products, 4DX Intelligence Engine Network and 4DX Clinical Portal. The company will also implement its two newest products, 4DX Patient Portal and 4DX Connected Health Record, as part of the project.
“I believe health information technology is in the midst of a paradigm shift on many levels,” Tood Fisher, chief executive officer of MobileMD, told Healthcare IT News. “Perhaps most significantly, it is becoming increasingly clear that [healthcare IT] has to serve entire care communities in addition to and in conjunction with specific healthcare entities.”
The ECHN plans to make the HIE technology available to all healthcare providers across its network of 19 towns in the Eastern Connecticut area. Data security and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations are also key goals of the HIE project, as part of ECHN’s wider accountable care organization objectives.
According to the vendor’s official website, MobileMD operates 24 HIEs across the U.S., and hosts all cloud-based services from data centers located in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
