In today’s information age, the prevalence of the world wide web makes it easier than ever for healthcare IT professionals to find new employment opportunities. According to a new survey published by recruitment consultancy AMN Healthcare, increasing numbers of healthcare IT professionals are turning to social media in their job search, reports Healthcare IT News.
More physicians, nurses and healthcare IT professionals are using platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to find work than last year, according to the study. Networking with other professionals within the healthcare sector is becoming increasingly important, and job seekers are leveraging the power of social media to make the most of their connections from previous positions.
Many respondents participating in the annual survey indicated that they had found positions, arranged interviews and secured offers through the use of social media.
“We are not surprised that healthcare professionals continue to adopt social media as a mainstream method for job searching,” Susan Salka, president and chief executive officer of AMN Healthcare, told the news source. “Our innovative social and mobile methods have been successful in connecting job seekers to opportunities.”
Key findings of the report suggest that one in three medical professionals used social media platforms when searching for new opportunities last year, compared to one in five in 2010. Almost half of survey participants said they used social media to maintain and develop their professional network of contacts, and Facebook was cited as the most popular platform for identifying new employment opportunities.
In addition to popular sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn, a number of specialized services have launched aimed solely at medical and healthcare IT professionals. According to CareerVitals, there are several sites catering specifically to healthcare personnel, including Medical Mingle, MedXCentral and Sermo.
