Health Information Management Curriculum
Karen Patena, MBA, RHIA, FAHIMA
The curriculum is continuously reviewed by faculty members to reflect current and future industry trends.
We’re continually reviewing the curriculum on an annual, if not more often, basis. The faculty gets together and review things like the legislation that’s coming out currently, things like the Affordable Care Act, the changes from high tech and meaningful use or we also get recommendations from our professional association, the American Health Information Management Association. They come up with updated competencies that our curriculum is supposed to model on a regular basis.
As a matter of fact, they just came out with one recently that we’re going to be putting into effect this coming fall. It’s constantly evolving to meet the changes that are going on. It’s not a static industry, that’s for sure.
