Summary: Learn about the types of jobs our health information management graduates are receiving.

Our jobs are very much in demand. Our graduates, rather, are very much in demand. We have a number of people that contact me on a regular basis, through email or other means, to say that they would like to have our graduates work in their programs. Some of the jobs that they’re assuming are things like project managers in IT vendor companies, or they might work in data analytics. That is a very big areas that’s growing. That means taking data, and analyzing it, and coming up with aggregate results for purposes such as planning, marketing.

Health information exchange organizations need data to indicate how they’re doing, how health care’s being delivered, whether they’re meeting cost requirements, compliance requirements with the Federal Government, so that is a big area. Also, information governance is another term that we’re hearing more often. That, again, simply means taking responsibility for the security of the data, the integrity of the data, so we deal a lot with those kinds of issues.

Other positions people might assume are privacy officers, security officers. I mentioned data analysts. Some of our graduates get into the coding area, but probably not so much doing the actual coding, as much as monitoring compliance with the requirements.
