For more than a decade, Dr. Miriam Isola has served as a professor of health informatics and technology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She brings more than 35 years of experience as a healthcare professional, having held previous roles in epidemiology, analysis, administration, and project and program management.

An authority on health informatics, Dr. Isola has based much of her career on helping healthcare organizations and professionals to implement automated data recording systems that can increase efficiency, secure patient information and improve the patient experience. In addition to teaching courses in healthcare informatics at UIC, including one she helped develop, Transforming Healthcare Using Business Intelligence and Predictive Analysis, she recently co-founded Sum-IT Health Analytics, which specializes in helping healthcare organizations become more data-driven.

Dr. Isola’s research focuses on the development and strategic use of analytical tools in the medical field, particularly with regard to population health, patient engagement and organizational change management. She has authored several studies on the subject, and has been published in the Dearborn Advisor and the Journal of Healthcare Information Management, among others.

Dr. Isola is a Certified Professional in Health Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) through the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
