Do more than make records available. Make them accurate.

It isn’t enough to simply record patient information; the details need to be accurate for that information to be applicable. Health information management professionals make sure they are. Bring your organizational skills and technical knowledge to our program and help deliver quality healthcare to the public.

UIC’s online Health Information Management curriculum can empower you to enhance the quality and uses of data through courses like health data structures and management, systems analysis and alternative health records.

We offer two degree paths for you to choose from: Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Information Management. Our BS HIM and PBC HIM programs can both be completed in as few as 2 years. Each degree is designed to establish your foundation in medical records management, coding, billing and regulatory requirements — and then build on it.

You can gain the skills to:

  • Organize and manage patient data to promote quality record keeping
  • Protect the privacy and security of patient health information
  • Fulfill access requests for information to support insurance cases, lawsuits and other purposes
